Memories are made of These

Psalm 139

Lord you search me and you know me
When I sit and when I stand
You understand my thoughts from afar
Behind me and before me Your hand is there to guide me
Too wonderful for me this knowledge is beyond my reach
Before a word is on my tongue
You know it all before it has begun

I praise you God that I am fearfully and wonderfully made…

Where can I hide from your presence

Where can I flee from your face
If I fly to the heavens you are there
If I lie in the grave you are there

If I take the wings of the dawn

If I settle on the far side of the sea
Even there your hand will guide me
You right hand will hold me fast
For you night is as the day
For you light and darkness are the same

I praise you God that I am fearfully and wonderfully made…

In secret, as in the depths of the earth,

You formed my inmost being
My very self, my bones were not hidden from you
You knit me in my mother’s womb

I praise you God that I am fearfully and wonderfully made…

Deliver me, O Jesus

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed,

Deliver me, Jesus. (repeat after each line)

From the desire of being loved
From the desire of being honored
From the desire of being praised
From the desire of being preferred to others
From the desire of being consulted
From the desire of being approved
From the desire of being popular.

 Deliver me, O Jesus:
From the fear of being humiliated
From the fear of being despised
From the fear of being rebuked
From the fear of being slandered
From the fear of being forgotten
From the fear of being wronged
From the fear of being treated unfairly
From the fear of being suspected

And, Jesus, grant me the grace
To desire that others might be more loved than I
That others might be more esteemed than I
That in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I decrease
That others may be chosen and I set aside
That others may be preferred to me in everything
That others may become holier than I,

provided that I, too, become as holy as I can.”

(His Emience Cardinal Merry delVal was accustomed to recite daily after he celebrated the Holy Mass)

Self Sabotage

Many times the day-to-day element that drags us down into the muck of life is our self. The way that some of us deal with the pressures of life is to push back and to try to handle everything ourselves. We can become obsessed with “el numero uno.” We’re ready to walk over anyone who gets in our way. We become incensed when someone cuts us off in traffic. The slightest emotion sends us reeling.

The reality is that we, the people that try to control things ourselves, are in control of nothing – least of all, ourselves.

We are succumbing to exactly what the serpent tempted Adam & Eve with .... You be the number one ... You decide ... without interference & dependence on God

Augustin Laurence: What a wonderful person you are my dear friend and I will pray for showers of blessings from my God for your generosity. God bless you sir.

The Imitation of Christ

The imitation of Christ is limited in His simplicity, meekness, patience & humility and not in majesty in which he is alone.

I want to talk to God but how do I know he will listen?

Sometimes we wonder why God is not responding or if our prayer requests are being put aside for more urgent needs or we are not in God's priority list. We should bear in mind that our God loves each of us like as though there's only one of us to be loved and He does not give what we ask for in prayer if it is not favorable for our salvation.

Prof. Stephen Hawking - The Grand Design

Debate on “Larry King Live” at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 - Prof. Stephen Hawking will be a guest on Larry King Live. In his controversial new book, The Grand Design, Hawking contends a new unified theory (actually, it's a collection of theories), concludes God was not necessary to create the universe .

Augustin Laurence : I caught the Stephen Hawkings CNN session. The after-life for Atheists is nothingness or so it seems. So whilst we still have the energy & still in communion with the Almighty, lets continue to pray for Stephen and Atheists that we know of.

............................................................................................

Robert Barron comments on Stephen Hawkings ( The Grand Design)
Best known scientist in the world
Stephen Hawkings in his book alludes that The universe requires no creator. When A scientist pontificates about matters about philosophicaly or religious. There is a difference between science & philosophy. Science seeks after events  & objects & phenomenon within the observable & measurable universe. That is the proper purview of science    . Phil & Religion seeks after ultimate & final causes. That’s why scientist say a lot of silly things when they talk about PH & REl like SH in his book “ Because of the loss of gravity the universe can & will create itself for  nothing  … Hawkins,is it gravity or nothing. When SH say that the  universe can spontaneously create itself out of nothing it   Sounds ludicrous when you look at the universe ..with all the stunning mathematical complexities and to say simply that all that came from nothing sounds or strikes me as  ludicrous . From nothing comes nothing.  If you ask an atheist where did the universe came from they will say it just happened something or the whole of Universe came from nothing.  SH makes an incoherent statement saying gravity is the ultimate cause of the universe. Some force within nature is identified as the ultimate cause of all things of the being of the earth. Philosophers were Trying to find the building block of reality .. there is earth there is fire there is water, prime matter.  Why is there something rather that nothing  …
What explains the contingency of the world. You and I are contingent we have parents we eat & drink. Catholic philosophy identifies as God as the non-contingent. Gods very nature is to be.
Line in Hawkins book … The scientific framework  leaves no room for deity ( He meant  that science proves that there is no God). It is quite right to say that within that framework science is not going to find God because God is not a  being , god is not a force within the observable measurable universe.  The scientific framework means the world we can measure that we can observe. The reduction of knowledge to scientific knowledge. Stephen Hawkins has succumbed to this problem.

Terry Jones to burn the Islamic Holy Book 'The Koran'

Augustin: No one has a right to Insult, Discriminate, Desecrate or Damage the beliefs of others. The actions of the Gainesville, Fla., evangelical church under the leadership of the lunatic Terry Jones, makes the community of that church no better than the perpetrators of the WTC tragedy and are an insult to all those who perished in that tragedy.

I am lost as to how this evangelical church will be able to go down on their knees or raise up their hands to our Almighty God in worship, after their disgraceful & barbaric act to burn the Islamic Holy Book 'The Koran'.

Debra Cowger Corcoran I agree, Augustin... but surely you must admit, it does help make sense of it if we can find a way to put ourselves in the other's shoes so to speak. My reply follows :
Appreciate your comments Debra. But if we go down this road there will be endless bloodshed & vengeance. Throughout the Bible you will see that the power Jesus came to release is namely our inability to realize our potential for goodness, which is to bring joy to others. By burning the Muslim sacred scripture is Terry Jones bringing Joy to others. So much time, effort and money is being spent by Terry & his congregation in this shameless act ... as a pastor can’t he channel all this for the sick, the bedridden, the aged, the hungry & homeless.

The Catholic Church's stand :

" USCCB leaders condemn plans to burn Quran, denounce intolerance "
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The chairmen of three committees of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops have joined in condemnation of plans by a small Florida Pentecostal church to burn the Quran on Sept. 11,2010.

"The burning of another faith tradition's sacred texts is diametrically opposed to the Catholic Church's ongoing commitment to improving interreligious relations," he said. "Furthermore, it represents a counter-witness to the Gospel engendering fear and hatred rather than the commandment to love our neighbor as ourselves."
"The destruction of a copy of the (Quran) is an affront to all people of faith, and to society as a whole," "It is also an affront to the Gospel message to love our neighbor as ourselves and in direct opposition to our church's efforts to build bridges of understanding and bring about a civilization of peace."
"All acts of intolerance aimed at a religious community should find no place in our world, let alone in our nation which is founded on the principle of religious freedom,"

My Comments on the Catholic Church's stand :
I am proud of the Catholic Church’s strong condemnation of the plans by the Gainesville, Fla., evangelical church under the leadership of the lunatic Terry Jones to burn the sacred texts of the Muslims. If there is any planned activity to ...insult, desecrate, discriminate or damage the beliefs of others (Hinduism, Muslim, Buddhism, Taoism etc), than i think it is our moral responsibility to denounce such action and prevent it from happening. Our outright condemnation of this despicable act should not be based after comparing the Muslim’s sacred texts with our Hold Bible or the Eucharist in order to ascertain the degree of its importance, but on respect and love for others’ beliefs.

Isaiah 57:1-2

The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace:they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in the uprightness. (New American Standard Bible)

My take on  Isaiah 57:1-2 is :

"The righteous perish, and no one wonders why they perish in their heart; merciful (kindhearted-generous-forgiving) men are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace and they find rest as they lie in death."

If the above is what it means than it seems to send shivers down the spine as some of us are living on borrowed time and still not being taken away. Does God have a reason for this? i wonder ...
It also brings  to mind the question of suicide. Suicide is forbidden in Christianity as God has a purpose and a plan for each and everyone of us. Thus we do not have a right to terminate life ... only the giver of life, GOD, can.

A Prayer for T's Church member

 .

 .

Merciful Father, I humbly turn to You because of the illness of T's friend,  who is suffering from cancer and from the after effects of a stroke. Lord, look upon SC with mercy and if it is in Your will that she be healed let it happen now. May Your healing hand rest upon SC and may Your life-giving powers flow into every cell of her body ... cleansing, purifying and restoring her to wholeness from a sickness and a stroke that is painfully devastating her body. Dear God, i place SC under Your care and sincerely plead with You to restore the health of Your child once again. Merciful Father, please also shower Your blessings on all the carol singers who sang "Silent Night" on Dec-23rd, 2010 for SC. I humbly ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen

My Human Condition-(I deceive myself )

 .

I think i can sidestep the consequences of my actions ( but my conscience tells me i cannot ). I deceive myself thinking my religious practices will save me. But i am held accountable for my actions by my creator. On judgment day, my response to accusations with denial, blame on others etc will be of no avail.

In the darkest hour of my misery, I have to accept consequences of all my wrong doings, repent & seek forgiveness before it is too late.

Jer 2 :17  -  Have you not brought this upon yourself, by forsaking  the Lord your God,  While He led you in the way ?

My Human Condition-(just leave me alone)

Generally i do not heed warnings (conscience) until it is too late.  I  hate to be told that i am doing wrong.  I  don't  really believe that severe punishment will come to me. Sub-consciously i am saying 'just leave me alone.  I'm  getting along fine.  I  will call you when i need you'.

I Asked God (From " Le Fou du Christ ")

I asked God for a True Friend;
And He gave me His Only Son !!!
I then asked Him for Wisdom;
And He granted me His Holy Spirit !!!
I later asked Him for a weapon in order to defend myself;
And He presented me with His Holy Cross !!!
I asked him for a personal guide

Psalm 144:3-4

 .
O Lord, what is man that you care for him,
the son of man that you think of him?

Man is like a breath;
his days are like a fleeting shadow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reflection :
David reminds us that life is "like a breath" and that our "days are like a fleeting shadow." Because life is short, we should live for God while we have the time and not waste our life on things & issues that has no spiritual value. We have to live for God cause He alone can make our life worthwhile, purposeful and meaningful. Matthew's  Ch 5-7 teaches us on how we can live for God.
